I agree with Steel Rat, if don't mind the slow pace that it is a good alternative to face-to-face or real time online gaming.

As a DM/GM it gives me the opportunity really roleplay the npcs and play up the battles by adding a lot of flavor text and such, that you sometimes just don't get a chance to when running a live game.
