Hello all,
I'm a pretty big fan of super hero games and am looking to see if there are others out there. If so please post with what systems, genre, etc. that you like. Maybe if enough of us post we can get a game going. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Unfortunately, yes. Experience has shown me in the past with PbP games, if players are not connecting everyday and posting something and really communicating with the GM, the game is destined to fail. Plus, having only one player, while certainly feasible and doable, just doesn't cut it for me.

However, I will mention that you might want to go over the the RPTools.net forums, and post your interest in a game there. Playing with MapTool is how I do the majority of my gaming these days. Yes, it is more time restrictive because it is real time, but I find that even a couple hours a week is better than no time at all. Also, if you hook up with a good group it might be feasible to actually find a longer block of time to play on a regular basis.

Anyway, again sorry about the cancellation and definitely check out MapTool and best of luck in finding a game. Oh! And I almost forgot HeroCentral.net!!! How could I forget that?! If you really want to do a PbP game, and you want to find the biggest Hero gamers community for online games, that is the place to go. Someone is almost always starting up a game over there. And tell 'em RPMiller sent ya. :)

Did you cancel the game, RP? I don't see the thread in MyGames link.

Interesting. I research White Wold and Wikipedia about Exalted. It looks more DND than Superhero based. Maybe White Wolf Scion would be a little closer or could be tailored to a more super hero based system. I'll have to take a look the next time I'm in a game store.

Check out WW's Exalted. You'll see pretty much how superpowers could work.

Interesting ideas. I've been tinkering with a superhero system based upon white wolf's storyteller system. I was thinking of calling it Dark Heroes or something lame like that. But the basic idea would be to allow the PCs to use powers by points to equal a base number plus dice per dot you fill in. Same for skills, etc. The trick would be what you call your power and how broad or specific would help the GM to assign the difficulty of the dice for success. For example: A broad telekenisis would have a lower difficulty but not be as effective as the ability to specifically and only pick up one thing at a time. A super fast PC would not be as good as someone who only runs fast for a difficulty rating or top speed, without spending more points to get equivelency. I also thought it might be interesting for super heroes to meet vampires, mages, spirits, and werewolves, etc. in that genre. Besides, per Watchmen comic, we all know heroes are probably a bit crazy and have some major issues that could fit well into the white wolf world with a bit of tweaking.
For now it is just an idea. I've done a little play testing over the last 2 years. Maybe after the thesis is done I'll drop it in here for you guys/girls to try out and comment on.

Balance, for me, is always the GM's responsibility. If the GM doesn't know the system well enough to know where things can be unbalanced there is a much higher probability that there will be some. Honestly, I think Hero is the most balanced, and potentially imbalanced system out there. It is balanced because it is a point based system, but unbalanced because of the reason stated. Players can easily abuse the system if the GM isn't careful. Mutants and Masterminds is also fairly balanced, but I really don't like the strictures of the d20 system, and the feats just drive me bonkers. Actually another good game for balance was Villains and Vigilantes back in the day. GURPS also has a good amount of balance, but the system just doesn't allow for the same level of super heroics that the Hero System does.

I'd like to keep this thread alive with other discussion on superhero game systems, if everyone is ok with that.

Of course I find that the biggest challenge in a game system is balance when it comes to super powers. I'd be interested in your experiences with various systems and which ones you find easiest, both as player and GM, to keep balanced and fun and challenging.

What are your thoughts?

Kewl! So sounds like 5th would be the way to go. If Fobbo is in that makes 3 of us.

Could you give us a little adventure background or open up a game thread so we can start thinking of character concepts? As well, can you list any limitations, etc., etc.

I'll try to go pick up a 5th edition over the next week or two.

As I mentioned, I'll create your character for you if you would like. You don't really need the book to play unless you want to get super crunchy with the mechanics. You know me though, I prefer to be a little more loose with things and not sweat all the details. After all it isn't d20. ;)

I don't have any Hero System books, so if I need them I'll have to pass.

That is up to the group. I have both additions. I will say that 5th will be easier for me, but with PbP I can easily look stuff up if I need to. The points will depend on which version.

I'd be down with that. I really like the Hero System; I'd have go get the book though. Let me know if you want 5th or 6th ed. so I can get the right one.

Also, how many points, etc.

Been away for a while... I do have a one shot that I could run really easily because I've run it before. It is a somewhat simple encounter, very stereotypical, but that means you can be assured it will go to completion. It uses the Hero System 5th edition, but I could be talked into using 6th edition if you want the latest and greatest.

As for the game, I would have to insist on at least one post a day to ensure that it moves along. The way the Hero System works this should be really simple for everyone. Basically each day would be a phase so everyone should have no problems with tracking things.

I don't need to do any prep for this because as I've said, I've run it before so for me I would have no problems posting; however, I would only be posting after all players have posted. This means that what players post will be assumed to be their actions, and changing them will have to be taken on a case-by-case basis.

So if you are interested, I need to know how committed you are, and if you want to do this, I'll need to see characters asap. If you are not familiar with the Hero System, I can make your character for you if you can write up a paragraph or two describing him or her and what powers you would like to have. However, these will be beginning standard power level characters so don't expect to have really powerful characters.

I would also be interested in playing. Any system will do. I have a nostalgia request I use to play Marvel Superheros way back in the day it was made by TSR. This site has all the books for download and a lot more: http://www.classicmarvelforever.com/

But again I am not tied to system so it could be: Heroes Unlimited, BESM, Champion, Mutants and Masterminds, Tales from the Floating Vagabond, etc..

Heh, yeah I wanted to get my game going, but time is a luxury I don't have too much of lately. I'd certainly like to play in a supers game though. Any genre and system is fine for me.
