Getting Started
So you want to start your own game, but have no idea how to start.
Before you jump in, there are some things you should know about play-by-post (pbp) games.
1) The pace is very slow.
2) The pace is very slow. I realize I already said this, but felt it was important enough to mention twice. If members of your game do not post daily, it may take weeks of real time to complete minutes of game time.
3) Player interaction can be chaotic. Players will post at varying times, making actions fall out of sequence. It's not usually too bad to deal with, but it's something a new GM needs to be aware of.
4) Losing players mid-game is common. Pbp games aren't for everyone. Usually someone who can't deal with it will let everyone know and bow out gracefully. But too often a player, or GM, will simply stop posting, with no explanation. There are virtual milk cartons out there with loads of Players and GMs on the labels...
If none of the above scenarios bother you, then let us soldier on.
Creating a game is fairly easy. Simply click the Start a Game link in the left sidebar, and fill out the form.
Once you submit the form, a new gamespace will be created for you instantly. At that point, you should read through the other How-To Guides in this forum and become familiar with the tools at your disposal. They also describe ways to advertise the game on this site. You are also free to advertise on other sites, just make sure not to spam other forums...
Post any questions you have below and I'll answer them ASAP.
